About Safer Neighbourhoods
Safer Neighbourhoods Teams work with a wide range of people, communities and partners, to tackle and solve crime and anti-social behaviour issues that affect local communities.
The teams are dedicated to the needs of a specific neighbourhood, with the policing priorities for that area decided in partnership with local stakeholders - the public, crime and disorder reduction partnerships, local authorities and other local organisations.
Teams also include a Dedicated Ward Officer and PCSO in every ward who is the local link for the wider neighbourhood team.
This means local communities get a real say in deciding the priorities for the area in which they live, allowing the police to provide long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining a focus on reducing crime.
Safer Neighbourhoods Teams work closely with and draw assistance from other borough based officers including:
- Emergency response and patrol teams; who respond to urgent calls and disorder as well as undertaking targeted patrols to prevent crime
- CID teams; who investigate serious crimes
- Community Safety Units; who address issues such as hate crime and domestic violence, looking after some of the most vulnerable victims.
We are making further improvements to how we do things, to make sure local officers are on duty and out in the communities when you want to see them.
On Monday, 23 February 2015 we published our review into neighbourhood policing.
